FAQ

Jan 01, 2015

All hail the FAQ. If you have a general purpose question that is not answered here, please post it in the comments and we'll add it to the FAQ (where appropriated).

Q: When is Thimbleweed Park coming out?
A: Soon! Just kidding. March 30th, 2017

Q: What platforms is it coming out on?
A: Mac, Windows, Linux and Xbox One.

Q: I backed the Kickstarter, what platforms will I get?
A: Backers will get a key for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Q: Do I have to choose Mac, Windows or Linux
A: No, backers will get all three.

Q: Will I get a key for the XBox?
A: Unfortunately, only the Mac, Windows and Linux platforms are part of the Kickstarter reward.

Q: I want a DRM free version, can I get that?
A: Yes, before the launch date, you will get a email asking if you want Steam or GOG (DRM free).

Q: When will preorders start?
A: Soon.

Q: Where can I buy the game?
A: Initially on Steam, GOG and the Xbox and Microsoft Store. We'll add other places as soon as we can.

Q: Is there Cloud saving?
A: We use Steam Cloud saves for Mac, Windows and Linux, and you can save from the Xbox to the Windows 10 store copy. You can't share saves between Steam and the Xbox.

Q; What will the price be?
A: We don't know yet.

Q: Will you release it on the Playstation and Switch?
A: Hopefully, but we can make no promises now. Once the game is release and we have some free time, we'll look into both of those. Ports take time and money, both of which we have very little of right now.

Q: Will the game be translated?
A: Yes, it will be subtitled in French, German, Spanish and Italian. Russian will follow a few weeks after release and will be a free upgrade.

Q: Is it only English voice?
A: Yes, for now it is only English.

Q. Will there be a boxed version of the game I can purchase?
A. Yes, once the Kickstarter boxes have been sent out, we will be selling an (unsigned) boxed version of the game.

Q: When can I expect my other Kickstarter rewards?
A: Probably a few months after the game releases. We're a small team.

Q: Are you going to open source the game engine?
A: We don't know. If we do, it won't be for several months after the game is released. Open sourcing is not as simple and just releasing a bunch of code, and you'd get to see what a crappy programmer I am.

Q: Help, I'm having issues with my Kickstarter, Humble Bundle or PledgeManger order!
A: Send an email to support [at] thimbleweedpark [dot] com. Don't post questions to the blog.

What scripting language are you using to make the game?

Ron Gilbert - Aug 24, 2015 at 15:42

Gustavo - Aug 28, 2015 at 12:22
This may be stupid or wrong, but when it says "Open sourcing is not as simple and just releasing a bunch of code", shoudn't it say "Open sourcing is not as simple as just releasing a bunch of code". Thanks for everything you've done, Ron (Gaming related of course, I don't wanna thank you if you stole a bank or something).

Mattias Cedervall - Aug 28, 2015 at 23:08
Shouldn't it say "robbed a bank"?

Aplastapenes - Nov 27, 2015 at 05:57
Will be the game into the "Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game" idea?

Just kidding awesome game, awesome developpers. I will pay any prize hahahaha

Zuckerberg - Jan 10, 2016 at 20:53
What'll be the "official" abbreviation for Thimbleweed Park? TP, TWP, TBWP,, or perhaps MM:TNG, MI:VOY, XFILES..? Honestly, what has settled among you guys?

Ron Gilbert - Jan 10, 2016 at 23:42
It's TWP, although I kind of like MM:TNG

Zuckerberg - Jan 11, 2016 at 08:22
:)

Can't wait for this game!  Can you share more details about the coming iOS version?  (It says "a few months after" but is that because it won't be developed until after the PC release, or does the XBox exclusive affect having a mobile version as well?)

These days I strongly prefer to games on an iPad (Adventure games specifically) or console over  the PC.  Depending on the timing of releases I might be tempted into getting an Xbox sooner than later if a desktop computer will be the only alternative for Thimbleweed park for a long time.

Hey! I backed on Kickstarter at the Phone Book level, but never got the email asking for the necessary info. .. What should I do?

Cheers

Hi, this looks like a great game, and I'm interested in supporting it for the collector's box, but before I do I'd like to know if you will send those internationally as well, since I'm not a US-resident. In any case, good luck with the development, and I'm looking forward to playing the game!

Ron Gilbert - Mar 11, 2016 at 14:57
Yes, we can ship the collectors boxes internationally.

Johnny Nys - Mar 22, 2016 at 13:01
Thank you! My pledge has already been registered. I can't believe I never heard of this game sooner. I was just thinking how long ago it's been since I played a really good, classic adventure game. The last really good game I can remember is Jane Jensen's "Gray Matter" back in 2010, and before that one it was that "Runaway" game. They really don't make them like they used to anymore. So good luck with finishing this game, looking forward to the release and to add that box to the collection I'm showing off on a shelf in my living room (LucasArts' Monkey Island and Indiana Jones games, and "Grim Fandango").

Richard - Mar 16, 2016 at 03:55
Hi, I am excited for the game! .Is Android/iOS version playable on phones or will it be Tablet only?

Daniel - Mar 18, 2016 at 01:26
Hi, I was just wondering if you can explain what exactly the new 'Ransome's Swear Jar' pledge does? How does your name appear in game with this pledge and what is the difference between the levels?

Nalbi - Mar 31, 2016 at 09:58
Same question here!

David Fox - Apr 20, 2016 at 18:55
There's some info on Ransome's Swear Jar in this blog post: https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/pledge_faq

Luis Lobo Borobia - Apr 12, 2016 at 02:50
What is the year during the game?

Nor Treblig - Apr 15, 2016 at 00:33
It's 1987. Hope we meet at ThimbleCon this year!

Dirk - May 15, 2016 at 10:25
Regarding the upgrades for Kickstarter backers, would it be possible to add an option for (signed) box + poster?

I might be mistaken,  but it seems this option exists for non-Kickstarter backers (though unsigned).

Reason is: while I love putting up boxes and posters, I never find myself wearing any of the T-Shirts.

María Gómez Bautista - Jun 05, 2016 at 19:15
I've just backed this project and now I'm asking myself: Will you send me the "I pirated Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island" certificate to print it? I will love so much to put it in a frame and show it to my visitors :D

Kate - Jun 08, 2016 at 08:47
I've really enjoyed reading your blog this afternoon, having now exceedingly surpassed my lunch hour.

In State of the Game #3 you mentioned recruiting playtesters from the readers, which got me very excited – is there a way I can sign up to be a tester?

Frank - Jul 27, 2016 at 14:04
Will there be a pre release Demo?

Katie Postma - Sep 26, 2016 at 15:07
No, we have no plans to put out a pre-release demo.

Jostein Topland - Sep 06, 2016 at 07:54
I'd like to run the game on my telly. Raspberry Pi is my option, since the game won't be supporting PS4 at first.

Will the game be able to run smoothly on a Raspberry Pi 3?

Katie Postma - Oct 06, 2016 at 13:33
We have not yet done any testing on the Pi so we are not sure at this time. We'll will likely post news about any additional platform compatibility closer to launch.

progwolff - Mar 30, 2017 at 10:30
If you have luck streaming the game to the raspberry pi using "moonlight".

Carlos - Sep 09, 2016 at 09:38
Will Android TV be supported?

Katie Postma - Oct 06, 2016 at 13:34
We'll announce any additional platforms closer to launch, and this will include if Android TV is supported.

Escarioth - Sep 13, 2016 at 03:37
You should have made a retro 486 version like "Retro city rampage" guys did :)
it would have been awesome to play on the good old system like the old days.
(i still play on mine)

Iiro - Oct 07, 2016 at 23:04
"When is the game coming out? I want it now!" says it's coming early 2017
but
"What platforms is the game coming out on?" says it's coming to PC late 2017.

Which is it?

Katie Postma - Oct 11, 2016 at 14:21
The answer is "early 2017". We will fix that, thanks Iiro! :)

Soren Ladegaard - Oct 16, 2016 at 18:27
I hear your budget is getting a little tight.

Is there a Paypal account I can transfer money to? I backed the game a the $25 level. But that was two years ago.

I'd gladly pay $25 again to keep you going.

Ron Gilbert - Oct 16, 2016 at 18:42
Our budget is tight (what game's isn't), but we still have money left and will be able to finish.

Thanks for the offer, the kindness of our backers has been amazing.

Zoerrvivor - Oct 31, 2016 at 16:24
is there chance for a later Windows 10 Mobile version?

Diogo - Nov 03, 2016 at 08:17
Are you guys thinking about a release for Nintendo Switch?

Marc Freiman - Nov 17, 2016 at 15:01
Is this coming out for Android or iOS? This game looks amazing!

LunaticSoleil - Dec 01, 2016 at 15:52
It would be very cool if you open source the game engine.

I probably would even back with 100-200$ if you start another kickstarter for this.

Based on the information I read on the blog, your engine would be a much better fit for me compared to AGS.

Hallamittuna - Jan 14, 2017 at 07:43
So, tell me about LOOM..

Mik - Jan 17, 2017 at 06:51
Will the Xbox One version be on disc or download only?

Frank Schwerdtfeger - Feb 01, 2017 at 10:13
Will it be playable on the ScummVM ?

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 06, 2017 at 09:56
Who knows... for sure not in "Early 2017" !!

Chris del Mar - Feb 06, 2017 at 08:13
when is release date :-) ??

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 06, 2017 at 09:55
- "Soon", Ron said in Munich :-)

Nor Treblig - Feb 15, 2017 at 05:28
It got even more specific: 17th of Soon.

Chris del Mar - Feb 06, 2017 at 13:34
i hope this month :-)

Wayne - Feb 15, 2017 at 03:31
We need a release date now! :D

Victor Von Doom - Feb 24, 2017 at 18:28
The most exciting thing I read on this FAQ is that this is (hopefully) the first of many new point-and-click games. Who knows, maybe one day we'll see the third installment of Monkey Island as originally imagined by its author...was Guybrush the victim of a spell, or was it all dreamed up by a child? After all, why would Disney want to hold on to that...they already have Pirates of the Caribbean!

I still get a shiver when I find myself in the underground tunnels of MI2 and Le Chuck pops up out of the blue and starts stabbing the voodoo doll! Did I mention I'm in my late 30s? It's just sad...or perhaps it's just the result of keeping my younger self alive on the inside :-)

Soren Ladegaard - Feb 28, 2017 at 04:38
With the release date being set to March 30th I still have one question.

Is that at midnight somewhere in the world? Or 8:00 AM "USA-time"? :-)

I live in Denmark (Central European Time) and plan to take a day off from work. I wonder when I can expect the game to be released?

I COULD theoretically wait until the 31st to play the game ;-) But I'd rather not :-)

LeKris - Mar 13, 2017 at 18:43
Just in case I want to do a Let's Play of Thimbleweed Park
is it possible to use monetization? Do you have requirements?

Egon - Mar 31, 2017 at 11:42
Will the game be released on Android?

Arto - Apr 03, 2017 at 17:53
Q; What will the price be?
A: We don't know yet.

I know! It's $19.99!

Yisus - Apr 04, 2017 at 04:27
On which page (URL) are you going to announce the boxed version for sale? when it goes on sale. Thanks!!!

David - Apr 12, 2017 at 13:17
Yes, I want to know it! I can't wait to buy this boxed version, sad because kickstarter was closed when I heared about it...

Lorenzo - Apr 26, 2017 at 15:28
Yes! Please tell us!
