Patrik Spacek - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:50
...heh...unnecessary effort, but its funny.

Jacky - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:50
What triumph!

Lee Allan Sanders - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:50
Bless you. I was getting constipated about the under thing. OVER! Carry on.

Ariel - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:50
Does anyone need more reasons of why Ron Gilbert is THE best video game designer ever?

Guy - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:51
Greatest video game option ever

Gzurl - Jan 14, 2017 at 02:26
Amen!

Zuckerberg - Jan 15, 2017 at 10:39
+1 (adding a bow)

Natalia - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:52
Damn, I can't wait for this game even tough I missed so many games like this because im only 17.. Any recommendations for me to play before I start playing this awesome game? I played Mobkey Island(1-5), Sam & Max, Maniac Mansion, Zak Makcracken and so on..

doglobster - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:59
Sounds like you've got most of the classics sorted, if you haven't played day of the tentacle then that is a MUST.

But the Blackwell series of games are modern equivalents to the point and clickers of old. There are five of them, they're all worth your time and have similar beautiful pixels!

Natalia - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:02
Yep I played Day of the tentacle too..

the archive - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:46
Simon the Sorcerer, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People (ehm, if you qualify), Bone, Grim Fandango,  Memoria (good but not funny), A Vampyre Story and a couple of text adventures like Infocom' Zork series or Legend Entertainment's Eric the Unready.

badde - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:20
I plat it first time. Simon the Sorcerer and now Simon the Sorcerer II. Have fun !

Derrick Reisdorf - Jan 13, 2017 at 22:01
I couldn't stand Strong Bad.

Nor Treblig - Jan 14, 2017 at 00:03
I'm afraid this cool game is not for everyone...

the archive - Jan 14, 2017 at 05:18
You might want to give episode 5 '8-Bit Is Enough' a chance, at least on youtube. Maybe the closest you can get to Sam & Max. Within you can play complex games like Pro Fruitboarder too (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDMW0IwOk4w). I miss Sam & Max. Hit the Road was very funny.

Bottox - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:01
In the meantime, you can play the deponia series.
This is the best point'n click in a long time.
But if you're a fan of P'nC you've already done.

Bottox - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:03
From Daedlic too, the two Edna & Harvey games are very fun too !

Cole Trickle - Jan 16, 2017 at 06:35
I just played the first Edna game and I liked it until she escaped the mental home. After that the tone of the game changed completely and didn't fit to the first part of the game. Both parts for themselfes were great, but that change in tone for no reason was really disturbing.

Natalia - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:03
Okey I'll check it, thamks!

Jacky - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:03
I also enjoyed Edna & Harvey: The Breakout and Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes! Highly recommended!

BoTTox - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:12
And... the fantastic Grim fandango !!!!!!!
You need to do it !

Emilie - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:27
I strongly second Grim Fandango! So much fun.

Cookie - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:26
Classic DOS-era adventure games from Sierra Entertainment (from the top of my head):
- Space Quest series
- King's Quest series
- Police Quest series
- Leisure Suit Larry series
- Ultima series
- Quest for Glory

Most contain like almost 10 individual games/subtitles....
Quality ranges from 'meh' to 'wow', and from funny to serious... though
Some are frustrating (when you're stuck somewhere), some are way too leasy, some are dead hard...
In some you can even die and you need to start (partially) over, etc...

I'm sure all the die-hard adventure and point-'n-click people here have played them in their days ;-)
You can also see a nice evolution in the GUI in them.
And of course you can experience the do's and don't, misshaps and successes in the evolution of point and clickers... ;-)

Emilie - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:31
Yesss, second all of these recommendations -- King's Quest 6 in particular is pretty fantastic.

Daniel Wolf - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:56
Seconding KQ6. I never really got warm with most Sierra adventures because of all the dead ends. But this one is just brilliant. A fairy-tale world full of great adventure and humor. One of my all-time favorites!

Bottox - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:36
You've forgot Gabriel Knight ; )

Cookie - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:48
Others:
Quest for Glory series

And of course those from LucasArts (besides MM and MI and the others not already mentioned by others): Indiana Jones series, Loom, ....
From Horrosoft: the Elvira series
Others worth to mention, which I can remember. All broke a 'barrier' of some sort (eg: hi-res graphics) and were considered unique at the time, a must have for the real adventure gamer:
The 7th Guest
Dark Seed (!!)
Myst series

Man oh man... the memories, the long long nights, ..... the driving (with a bike) to a friends home to discuss and play them, trying to find solutions (internet didn't existed back then... If you were REALY lucky and had a lot of money you could maybe find stuff on a BBS... who remember those? :-P)....

/me goes to bathroom and picks some toilet paper to wipe tears away (under for sure!)

Cole Trickle - Jan 16, 2017 at 06:30
Ultima was published by Origin and belongs to EA today. All they  did with this fantastic franchise was a p2w IOS game.

Brian Small - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:32
Of course you can't beat the classics, as mentioned by several people here already.  For something newer, but still pixelated - I recommend checking out Paul Pixel.  I just played it on my iPad (just found out about it, it was released in 2016).  Fun, and not too long, but decent puzzles, and a "verbish"like interface, even - so it get's you warmed up for the real deal :)

Brian Small - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:42
Sorry - I miscommunication.  Paul Pixel doesn't have the verb-like interface, that was City Quest, which I'm playing now.  City Quest isn't nearly as fun, in my opinion though - Paul Pixel has a better story.  Another great newer pixelated adventure is Milkmaid of the Milky Way, which I am also currently playing, and so far, have been very impressed with the story.

TheSultan - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:34
You should play "Full Throttle" and "The Dig" from Lucas Arts. Also if you want to see how 21st century Graphic Adventures are, you can play Double Fine's "Broken Age". If you want an old not-so-known" Lucas Adventure, you can also play Loom.

Mark - Jan 17, 2017 at 15:01
*ask Pirate about Loom*

Bottox - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:43
And if you have enough time after playing all these games before the release of thimbleweed, you can play the 5 games from the Broken Sword serie  ; )

Oregondanne - Jan 24, 2017 at 05:05
Or just 1, 2 and 5. 3 and 4 have clumsy 3D graphics that don't feel classic point-and-click at all (well, they aren't). There's a great remastered version of Broken Sword 1 that would be a great starting point.

Diego - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:44
Dude, Full Throttle is a MUST.

And Toonstruck.

IMNS - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:25
The Legend of Kyrandia series was also pretty rad.  Who doesn't love a evil & magical court jester?

Marc - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:33
A bit more modern (2010), but still point and click is Hector: Badge of Carnage

https://telltale.com/series/hector/

Fun fact: all voices are done by a single person (the producer of the games)

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 18:03
Nice fun fact! I haven't noticed it back then.

Sushi - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:26
The dig is very atmospheric! Not as "zany" or funny as some other lucasarts games though.
From the Sierra catalogue, I liked the Laura Bow adventures too. For historical reasons, I am now playing through Kings Quest 1-7 for the first time ever (in 5 now)... but with the advent of the internet it is hard to stay stuck for longer than a day... UHS (universal help system) is nice to give hints without just spoiling or giving the solution....

Natalia - Jan 13, 2017 at 22:48
Okey thank u all for your suggestions I'll try to play all of that, thanks once again!

Sushi - Jan 14, 2017 at 04:47
@Natalija

Though I haven't played it more than 5 minutes yet, The Book of Unwritten Tales seems to be a lot of fun too. Especially if you are into fantasy...

Ian - Jan 14, 2017 at 06:21
Gabriel Knight 1 + 2 were excellent, theres a modern ui remake of the original out now too. Well worth a look. And Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis as well

kite - Apr 10, 2017 at 12:57
Defi etely indiana jones and the fate of atlantis. Also absolute MUST (and if you ask me you need to play these first before you move on to mediocrities like vampire story ^^ pff hehe, dont take it too seriously) Broken Sword 1 and 2, Primordia (from wadjet eye games, also look at other games from wadjet eye) and the free to download Beneath a steel sky!

Chuck The Plant - Apr 27, 2017 at 10:19
The Dig!

Christian Kupsch - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:53
Finally! Democracy, social justice, representation advocates, as well as toilet paper advocates everywhere have won. ;-)
Ingenious idea, guys!

Jules - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:53
Over! Definitely! This is no question!

Otro Jugador - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:56
Under!? What a bunch of savages. Toggle was unnecessary. Should have been over all along!

hihp - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:56
This just in: Thimbleweed Park developers add most wanted functionality ever!

...thanks, Ron :-D

Carlo Valenti - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:56
*THAT* is AWESOME!

Bottox - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:56
An absolutely crucial existential question on a subject that could totaly ruin the game....
OVER is the answer !

John - Jan 13, 2017 at 12:59
You...YOU PR GENIUS!

Andy - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:00
and so to bed, to finally sleep now that this has been put right... i give my thanks in 2 ply in honour.
thanks
thanks

Marcus - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:00
Over

.. and out!

Natalia - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:04
Dear Ron, you forgot to put your name at the end of the blog..Again..

Stefano E. - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:04
ROTFL

Tim Lammert - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:07
Just hilarious :)

Anthony - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:08
Ok, obviously the correct answer is over... UNLESS! You have a playful cat who likes to unroll the toilet roll. If so, switching to under will foil their efforts and save you a bunch of tidying up and excessive toilet roll purchases,

So - if a cat lives in the house in which this bathroom can be found, under is acceptable and indeed preferable. Otherwise, over.

Trump Train - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:12
Now the "shit-bag" can have his choice!

Ivan Braidi - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:18
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!! XD

Ron you're absolutely AMAZING! Thank you for this huge, honest laugh!! XD

At this point, PLEASE, make it a choice in the Options menu of the game!! :D

Love you guys!! <3

Ivan Braidi - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:20
OMFG!! It's already an option!! O.O

I'm sincerely moved now.

XD <3

Gonzalo - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:31
The UNDER way is THE way! (just for me...)
Anyway, I love the fact that you heard your fans. You rock.

Jim Wells - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:32
OVER is the only sane and rational way to hang the paper!

Ricardo Marichal - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:34
Another option to choose the softness level of the paper ?

Matt - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:10
An option for the softness of toilet paper in a public toilet?? Never! Only the crispiest hard rough paper will do when you are restocking a public loo!

urielz - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:37
I appreciate the extra feature really,  but I hope this doesn't delay the launch of the game. Will this pass the Microsoft Certification Process?

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:40
If the default option is "over" then it will pass with flying colours. Otherwise...

Andy - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:42
This is the kind of humor that makes these games the absolute best.

Geoffrey Paulsen - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:01
absolutely!

Christian - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:45
Brilliant! So great you still were able to put this in in spite of the content lock etc.

Ralf - Jan 13, 2017 at 13:49
Thank god you added the option to set up the alignment of the toilet paper role! It'll be a worth-while experience for me to see which direction will suit me well!

Mattias Cedervall - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:00
We are The Mods. Your toilet paper will adapt to service us. Resistance is funny.

Dominik - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:09
Wow..... Just wow :-)
...
...
...
Now the question remains: What is the DEFAULT setting? :-)

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:59
There should be no default setting. The first time the game starts, it can ask you your language, and the toilet paper orientation.

Dominik - Jan 14, 2017 at 06:12
But if it's a drop down... which setting is listed first? :-)

I guess the only REASONABLE way to handle this is a text input field.

Ema - Jan 14, 2017 at 09:12
NO WAY!

On QWERTY keyboards "U" comes first than "D".

The multiple choice order should be generated randomly, every time you start the game.

Ema - Jan 14, 2017 at 09:13
I meant "U" comes first than "O".

Marc - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:14
I was always wondering whether this was a man-woman thing or some coriolis force effect.
My wife is from Australia and she does the under method, while me, being an engineer, knows only OVER is right. :-)

Shubs - Jan 23, 2017 at 15:04
From past exposure to this great debate, it's a cat person thing. The only story ever given to justify hanging it 'under' is that cats play with toilet paper.

Since it's already been objectively proven that dogs > cats and being a cat person is a side effect of a zombie parasite, this defense loses automatically and 'over' wins. Forever.

Alfred - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:15
Ron - you're awesome. Don't let the bastards grind you down. Don't let them grind you down. :)

Matej - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:15
So this is the glory of the crowdfunded games, eh? ;)

Arto - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:16
Oh boy! I will play the game through at least twice: once with under-option and once with over-option.

Steffen - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:07
Yes, one has to do the game play twice now... what an extra for free!

Rodrifra - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:19
You're *beeping* kidding us, right?

I can't *beeping* believe it. This is what makes games the greatests of all times, and you guys incredible. This was unnecessary work, but this details show how much care you take creating you're games and I LOVE that. In the future please send all those flamers go *beep* themselves.

dada - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:20
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

of course UNDER!!
and i demand that to be the default setting!!!!!!!!

Orcan Ogetbil - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:23
I wouldn't mind having a third option that is my preference: random

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:37
I agree, there should also be random!

Also it should be possible to switch the toilet paper in the game :-)
Don't forget to add achievements for switching all in the correct (= over) position.

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:36
There will be an option allowing you to set the default option.

Orcan Ogetbil - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:22
Wonderful news!

However, this begs the question:
What is the default setting?

IMNS - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:27
While in practice I prefer the under the roll method, especially with a cat, the over the roll method is more visually appealing.

Fossy - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:27
The patent of toiletpaper shows definitely that "OVER" is the only right way to use it. So that should be the default version.

over-opter - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:49
Yay! I'm really curious about the options menu.

Sundance - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:54
Sorry, that's crazy. Over or under? And now both totally wrong ways to hang the toilet paper are in the game. The one and only right way to hang the toilet paper is "vertically" and - to be exact - to the LEFT. Yes ... not to the right, not under, not over ... to right way is to the left. Sounds strange, but that's the right way. We hereby request a "left" option. Please do not leave the left left out.

Gffp - Jan 13, 2017 at 14:59
Under is the deafult choice. It's plain to see.

You can't do the trick Antonio does with toilet paper in the special case animation, otherwise. More important: hey! That's a design choice in depicting the strange and mysterious world of Thibleweed Park! It's not our home, its a fictional world! Come on... There's such a mass fixation about it...(But you devs have done a wonderful marketing move! Very well done!)

over-opter - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:15
This is a no-brainer.

Look, you're sitting on the toilet and after you've done your stuff, you reach out for the paper. Moving your arm to the left or right, you'll reach the paper in the 'from above'-position more easily and before you would be able to grab it from below. Secondly pulling the paper this way needs a less power, you might be exhausted after doing your stuff or being distracted by reading your favorite magazine. Thirdly horizontal installations are more common than vertical ones. Fourthly the toilet paper doesn't touch the wall and can't get dirty this way. Last but not least, if you're a man or more the artistic kind of woman, you benefit from the same amenity also by standing in front of the toilet.

Gffp - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:22
I was talking about the game, the design choice, not the real life! In my bathroom I also hang the roll over!
There's definitely a mass-fixation about it ahahahah (nothing against you, my friend over opter!)

over-opter - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:30
I see. Hey, you can make some nice decoration quickly by putting a toilet paper roll on bottles, it will spirally move towards the center of the gravity.

Steffen - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:04
Best blog post ever! Yes, make it an option...

Option for language, option for screen-size, option for toilet paper direction. Best composition ever!
THIS will for sure inspire EVERY future game designer for CENTURIES!

LOL

unwesen - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:06
BUT HOW MANY LAYERS IS THE PAPER MADE OF?!!?

That appears to be the main UPS advertised on the packages. So I MUST KNOW for this game!

over-opter - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:19
Three layers, soft, dry, yellow colored, being advertised with a tiger.

Arto - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:09
Come to think of it... world peace is maintained by keeping opposite parties relatively happy. That means compromises have to be done. What Terrible Toybox just did, was not really even a compromise, but they keep both parties happy. Not relatively happy, but happy. So I would have to say the next Nobel Peace Prize should go to TWP team.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 13, 2017 at 18:00
+1

NotEnough - Jan 22, 2017 at 04:54
If under is still the default, there can be no peace.

Nathan - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:20
Will there also be an option to set which way the toilet swirls?

Alex - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:22
Instead of a menu option, I would give the in game playable characters the ability to change it.  Then you could make it an achievement.

Steffen - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:24
YES, an even better "option"... But still, what is the default?
LOL

Farooq - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:30
Mark Ferrari, who was also reached for comment, dubbed it as "complete butchery of creative freedom" which is "so not cool".

MrKii - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:32
It's sad that trivial things like this get this amount of attention when there are much more problematic things in this world, like people using spaces instead of tabs and putting the "{" in the same line.

Daniel Wolf - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:53
You're putting the opening curly braces on an extra line? That's needlessly wasting space and butchering the layout! At least you have the good sense to use tabs like any real programmer!

;-)

(Didn't know I had a troll in me!)

Arto - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:18
There should be an option in TWP to have source code brackets on their own line or not.
Also an option to choose between space indentation vs. tabs.

I use tabs. Brackets vary.

Steffen - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:26
+1!

Loftcraft - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:38
While we are at it: Could you also add an ingame option to turn "fun" on and off? It would be great to have an option to switch TPs "fun-level" between "True Detective" and "Funny X-Files Episode"...

Big Red Button - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:46
Watch and learn, Donald! This is called representative democracy! :-)

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:47
So you want an option to turn Donald on and off?

Big Red Button - Jan 13, 2017 at 18:05
Yes, I want exactly that in a way.

Big Red Button - Jan 13, 2017 at 15:56
Hey! The team is going to come to Europe in around two weeks! Munich, Berlin, London.

See here: https://twitter.com/thimbleweedpark/status/819940211484454912

Big Red Button - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:58
What a feedback here! Well, I would have loved to hang out with the team, but it's a bit too far away from me. :-(

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 13, 2017 at 18:06
I am interested in the event of Munich, Sunday 29th January.
I have to organize my travel.
Is there any italian who wants to travel with me?

Daniel Wolf - Jan 14, 2017 at 09:50
I believe that going to Munich is a very prudent choice. A testimonial of the team's sound judgement and taste.

Did I mention I live there? O:-)

Yay! I'm going to meet my heroes!!! :-D

Balloon Boy - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:00
Okay, now we just need the "bachelor who's too lazy to put a new roll in the holder and just sets it on top" option and we'll be set!

Cr1spyBac0n - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:02
And i was soooo close in outraging about that topic :) Well done !
I expected a stretchgoal on kickstarter ;)

LogicDeLuxe - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:09
The "over"-option looks too tidy in that room. And the roll has to be single-layer sandpaper, like you get in the cheapest motels.
I think, it has to be the opposite to what sane people would prefer, or it just looks wrong in that context. Like they obviously don't care to clean that place, they probably wouldn't pay any attention how the roll is facing when inserting it either.

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:49
Due to technical limitations the toilet paper needs to be at least one pixel thick. Which is approximately 15 layers.

Sushi - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:12
This toiletpaper option press release made me laugh so hard it hurts! (Really, I sprained a muscle in my back so laughing actually hurts)
Anyway, a lovely option -which I had thought of before-.
Although I am an OVER-person, I have to say the UNDER art looks very impressive with all the shades going on. Kudos to Mark (I assume) for this!

Sushi - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:16
Actually, I thought of taking the character to the toilet, PICK UP Paper Roll and then USE Paper Roll with toilet hanger... and expect a comment "ah. Much better!" Unless with Ransome- he's  clearly an UNDER person

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:51
Someone already recorded the voice for it, hehe: https://youtu.be/BsyuBMLWF_s

entropy - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:48
I want both.

At the same time!

Damn, serve your customers well already!!!!!!

Francesco Favia - Jan 13, 2017 at 16:58
Can.t help thinking that the flush lever should be on the right...

Brian Small - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:10
I wonder if that device on the top of the toilet is some sort of 1980's version of an IoT device.  If so, what kind of information would it provide to client devices...

Nor Treblig - Jan 13, 2017 at 18:00
This must be the oldschool equivalent of the three seashells we use in 2032 (after decades of war of over vs. under).

Big Red Button - Jan 15, 2017 at 12:28
At least, it's supposed to be a tube. Seeing the unusual pipe installation, I think that the tank could be anything except for a tank. A real toilet wouldn't work this way. Maybe that toilet is not even a toilet.
However, most important is that the toilet paper hangs correctly! :-)

Pistabá - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:20
OMG what an announcement! This raises hope that you can even put a chainsaw AND a can of gas in the SAME GAME :-D

Arto - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:30
There is a working chainsaw in the game. It might be powered by gas, but I think it will be electric.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 13, 2017 at 17:50
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Nooooo!!!!!!!
Unbelievable..... that's real? That's not a joke??
AHAHAHAHAHAAH!!!!
Oh my G. you are the #1 !!!!

Derrick P Reisdorf - Jan 13, 2017 at 21:58
Epic.

tcmsurfer - Jan 14, 2017 at 01:33
Seems like I'm late for the party.

Best wiuld be to not have a default and maybe get the orientation through an optional dialogue between the two agents. Otherwise its random. After all it is a public bathroom, not yours.

Absolutely necessaty though is to switch  the orientation with a verb command in-game! That way a player can "fix" it.

tcmsurfer - Jan 14, 2017 at 01:35
A note to the side... each character in the fame could have their own preferred orientation. :)

Guess thats too late to build in.

Ron calls Mark Ferrari at 3am Scenario:

Ron:  We have a game breaking issue!
Mark: Whats so Important?
Ron: The Toile.. .
Mark: [Interrupts]
Mark: It's been bothering me as well!

Nor Treblig - Jan 14, 2017 at 02:54
You just have to swap some names since it was Ron insisting on this cruelty.
David, on the other hand, was fighting for a better world!

Jochem - Jan 14, 2017 at 02:59
So, you can actually toggle this while in the room? Spooky...:D

Wetzer - Jan 14, 2017 at 03:07
As the Bob Woodward of this in the press so called "Toilett Paper Gate", I appriaciate very much the frankly handling on the part of the responsibles according to this incident. But I have to taken my responiblity as admonisher seriously and have to announce that the offered solution has a taste of a "quick fix". Personally I would prefer a more imersive solution like the suggested "a controllable person has the option to change this by user action". It would be feel like a "tick" of this person.

sincerly
Wetzer

PS: Have Fun :D
PPS: Can`t wait to play this travel to my childhood.

Nor Treblig - Jan 14, 2017 at 09:43
We need the janitor as playable character, he will be the only one able to reposition toilet paper.

Mattias Cedervall - Jan 14, 2017 at 11:56
Yes! The Janitor is almighty!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 14, 2017 at 03:12
And now, one step further:
...does the water in the toilet twist according to the Coriolis' law?
When the Simpson went in Australia, there was a sort of machinery to change the water direction!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 14, 2017 at 03:53
OK - look behind you! A three-upcoming events!
Let's concentrate on the events...
I ask for your help.
My wish is to join on January 29th, I am organizing the trip.
I don't know any german word, except for Kartoffen, Guten Tag and Aufiedersen (or whatever is written).
Is there any german user on this blog who thinks to join the party in Munich, on 29th? And if he's not scared by me... can we go together? :-)

Carlo Valenti - Jan 14, 2017 at 07:08
Which party? Did I miss anything?

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 14, 2017 at 07:19
Thimbleweed Park is going on tour in Europe. Munich, Berlin and London, three fan events!

Munich, 29th January https://www.facebook.com/events/672715332915990/

Berlin, 4th February https://www.facebook.com/events/245270212575628/

Tobias R. - Jan 14, 2017 at 18:44
Since I don’t like travelling alone (especially long trips as this), I will ask a good friend to join me. If he does, we can meet you there. However, we are both not from Munich, so we can only assist in translating.
I will reply here about the result until January 21.

Tobias R. - Jan 18, 2017 at 17:19
Sorry, mate, my friend didn’t want to go. I hope you find someone to help you out.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Jan 19, 2017 at 05:54
Thank you for your concern, I'm sorry that you can't come to Munich.
Anyway, I have to thank some users of this blog which gave me detailed information and hints, for a happy day in Munich!

apemonkeychimp - Jan 14, 2017 at 05:17
What's the fuzz about? Don't all games have this feature? ;)

Malcolm - Jan 14, 2017 at 08:16
Natalia: It was already mentioned but way too late so before you miss the pearl of the game I can only repeat: legend of Kyrandia is the best series behind those you already played! Especially part3 where you Play the Jester... so maybe you want to try that before the long awaited thimbleweed Park is going to be released .

Juan Dresden - Jan 14, 2017 at 08:33
I uploaded this on reddit gaming. I hope it will catch some people's attention on the game.

Some of us are PROBABLY going to the Thimbleweed Party on Feb 4th (Saturday) in Berlin,
starting from Orio al Serio in the morning,
and coming back the day after.

*Anyone from Italy wants to join?*

Roberto Cano - Jan 14, 2017 at 11:59
I love it!! I think the game is just better with this. No irony intended! :)

Mario F. - Jan 14, 2017 at 18:45
@GARY: if you changed it then you need to adapt the shadow of the roll falling onto the wall. You did forget that. Hahaha. You only changed under to over...

I know, i am a smart*beep*

Theo - Jan 16, 2017 at 16:32
But it's true ;)

longuist - Jan 16, 2017 at 17:02
apart from realism and *beep*, the shadow is different

Mister T - Jan 14, 2017 at 20:24
But does the toilet paper have the same resolution as the text?

Sven Raschke - Jan 15, 2017 at 03:11
There are limits  to the freedom of choice or at least there should. toilet paper under is so wrong. no human with a conscience should encourage others to arange a tool for some of ones most private and precious bodyparts in such an unnatural way. shame on you, ron gilbert. i thought you where a great game designer for so many years. now i have to burn all your games. very disappointed.

Nor Treblig - Jan 15, 2017 at 09:42
I agree... in real life.
But since this is a computer game it's actually OK to do all kind of crazy and fictitious things in a virtual world.
Like murdering a lot of people. Or putting toilet paper under the roll.

And to be honest: This particular example was about a public toilet. They are supposed to be disgusting. And what could be more disgusting than putting the toilet paper there the 'under' way?

thduggie - Jan 16, 2017 at 15:49
I used to agree. However, in a dwelling with creatures that play with the rolls (cats, toddlers), "under" is a legitimate engineering solution to having the roll all over the floor.

Nor Treblig - Jan 16, 2017 at 17:17
You just have to train them correctly. Or use this, which I'm sure will work great with toddlers too: http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/PetsUnited/D58134 >:)

Amb - Jan 15, 2017 at 06:27
What you dont realise is this toggle changes other things too. Right hand drive to left hand drive. Cups on the shelf above the plate shelf. Even the characters shoelaces from single to double bow.

Amb - Jan 15, 2017 at 06:29
Actually i wish the face on the mirror changed to sad when it reverses

Nor Treblig - Jan 15, 2017 at 07:20
:-)
But which one is happy and which one is sad face?

Ema - Jan 15, 2017 at 12:06
There will be an option for that

Nor Treblig - Jan 15, 2017 at 18:22
And even if not: There will be so many mods made for this game...
(note: the link may not work YET)

Amb - Mar 31, 2017 at 17:19
For the record, the FACE does reverse when you change the option :D

Nor Treblig - Apr 02, 2017 at 15:48
Awesome! But, hmm, clearly it should be the other way around! BUUUUUUG!

longuist - Jan 15, 2017 at 10:45
What about the animation?

https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/zero_bugs

Will it be "corrected" too? Will the paper stop resist being unrolled? Please do not try everything to appeal to the god of physics!!1

Karl - Jan 15, 2017 at 16:27
This is more important information than Donald Trump’s nonsense. I’m all for letting me sit on the toilet and rolling away on the rolls just for pleasure. Thank you.

PöbelPosi - Jan 16, 2017 at 02:48
Why is that an option? It should have bee "over" all the way.!

Capitan Catarro - Jan 16, 2017 at 08:52
Hi,

i have a question about cloud save.. If i start home to play and save with a pc versione, i go to work and i have mac.. can i load the save from pc version from home?

Thx

Michel - Jan 16, 2017 at 09:43
as the game is gonna be published on steam (which fundamentally don't give a trump about your platform) that's very possible

Nor Treblig - Jan 16, 2017 at 17:18
Like Michel said: If both are the Steam version it should work without problem.
It probably won't work between platforms like iOS <-> XBox <-> Steam <-> DRM-free (which likely doesn't use cloud save at all)

Nor Treblig - Jan 16, 2017 at 17:21
Wait... shouldn't you be working?

Soong - Jan 16, 2017 at 09:21
Wow!  That is one of the funniest things I have read on this blog.  I can't believe this not only got "fixed" but that it was also turned into an option.  I wonder what happens to the animation when you spin it.  I remember someone here pointing out that in the old version, the toilet paper roll would not just spin, it would completely roll onto the floor.

Steven Don - Jan 16, 2017 at 18:43
"Numerous toilet paper holders"? Just how many toilets are there in this game? I supposed there could be quite a few in the hotel, but still...

I guess I'll have to play through the game twice, trying both ways. It'll be a completely different gaming experience!

Starker - Jan 17, 2017 at 02:05
I guess sometimes you just have to roll with it.

Nick The Greek - Jan 17, 2017 at 19:45
Hahaha so funny!!!

Toilet Paper Over portrays a clean toilet
Toilet Paper Under portrays a dirty dirty toilet

Amb - Jan 18, 2017 at 13:04
You know you have the wrong setting on when the shadow on the wall is for the under position and the paper is in the over position. Its a subtle reminder for how wrong you are :D

Gabarts - Jan 19, 2017 at 03:23
The smiling face could be turned in a sad face also... and when in under position a "REDRUM" blood writing should appear :)

Joe - Jan 26, 2017 at 17:21
From a visual design standpoint - under.  Functionally - over is better.  End of discussion.
