Tim Lammert - Feb 19, 2017 at 10:29
Woohoo
And runnig

Tim Lammert - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:20
Oh no, don´t close that arcade :(
Patch means it reopens later?

Ron Gilbert - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:23
Yes, that is the plan. We didn't have time to get all the machines playable, so they were a confusing distraction.  It's slated for the first path.

Tim Lammert - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:28
Oh great one more reason to play more then once.
And of course to unlock the Ultra Hardcore Mode with 6 times more puzzles.
:D

Tim Lammert - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:35
If you are into it, you should have a look at recalbox or retropie.
Just turned on my Rasperry after hearing the podcast to play a little more Maniac Mansion via Scumm on it on big Screen.
Or Monkey Island... hmm maybe both.
Besides that, you can play through nearly every "Retro" console and Arcade Machine that ever existed.

Big Red Button - Feb 21, 2017 at 14:16

Tim Lammert - Feb 24, 2017 at 15:39
Currently using Recalbox instead, it´s a charm.
Got me some Legos to build a custom case for the raspi 3, search for "Nespi". Found a tutorial (google it) and orderd the needed lego bricks. I was sitting here and was playing with Lego... crazy.
But it looks awesome. :P
http://www.bilder-upload.eu/show.php?file=544638-1487968602.jpg
Best part of the little box is using ScummVM on big Screen, sitting on my couch. :D
Love it.
Just a working Amiga Emulator is really missing.
Beeing able to play Thimbleweed park through it would be just awesome. But I really don´t think it´s possible on a Rasperry 3. Not enough power.

Big Red Button - Feb 24, 2017 at 16:42
Looks great! It's an interesting idea.
I've used solely RetroPie up to now (using a standard case). All in all it works well, too, but I have an issue with my Xbox 360 USB controller in ScummVM. The cursor stutters heavily. Maybe I should check this out in Recalbox on occasion.

Nor Treblig - Feb 24, 2017 at 17:03
The first link in the second post worked for me.
Nice case!

I've bought this kit to play around with RetroPie: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1247569653/pi3cart-nes-cartridge-case-for-raspberry-pi-3/description

Tim Lammert - Feb 25, 2017 at 08:19
@Big Red Button
You don´t need to change if you are happy with retropie. I have the same with my Xbox 360 USB Controller.
I´m using a mous and keyboard for ScummVM
@NorTrebling
Saw that too, nice one.
Would have some fears about overheating while using the PS ore N64 Emulator

I don´t understand we the links always are broken... tried several times. Now I´m happy at least one works.
last try, direct links:

Nor Treblig - Feb 25, 2017 at 13:53
@Tim Lammert:
It uses a fan and William Mauldin said it works without problems under load (it's actually a 5V fan he uses at 3.3V).
He tinkered a lot around until his designs were final. There is one long slot/vent to get fresh air into the cartridge from below the board.

Those new links are all working now! It looks great. I wonder if the buttons could be made functional...

Big Red Button - Feb 25, 2017 at 14:03
@ Tim:
That's good to know, thank you!

Mark Eteer - Feb 19, 2017 at 13:35
The arcade machines are a perfect opportunity for in-app purchases.

Tim Lammert - Feb 19, 2017 at 15:14
Personaly I would buy them all, just to have it complete.
But I would loose some, I don´t know. Respect? And I would blame on Ron and Gary. all the time for bringing this plague to this Game that should feel like an Old School Adventure.
Regarding this I´m Old School too and I hate all this new InGame purchasing stuff. As well as monthly fees for online games or having access to the network like on XBox.
As soon as I know there will be a physical "boxed" Version, I will buy it too.
I´m feeling like, I bought it, I own it. And not getting the full content while paying the full price, is like getting duped.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 20, 2017 at 04:43
I second this. I dislike InApp purchase, for who already purchased the whole game.

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 20, 2017 at 22:48
I dislike that people are too lazy to say "application" so they shorten it instead of using the shorter synonym "program" which is better in the first place! :-( Don't worry, you're still my pal, Zak. ;-) I too dislike purchases in a game!

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 09:17
So, what kind of kewl progz do you use these days?

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 21, 2017 at 10:04
You're preaching to the choir, Mattias :-)
I fully agree, the word "application" should not exist in that context... they are all programs!

longuist - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:55
But programs with the possibility to extend them in exchange of lots of money should be easily distinguishable. I think the shitty name "app" is well suited in this context...

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 22, 2017 at 18:06
Nor Treblig, I use Easy CD Creator, Norton Commander, Paint Shop Pro 4.14, WinAmp, WinZip and WordPerfect.

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:12
@Mattias Cedervall:
This sounds familiar. But I've always preferred Nero.

Btw. I've only recently discovered the pun (https://twitter.com/skatebee/status/633938448898850816)
How embarrassing :-)

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 22, 2017 at 17:26
Zak, I didn't know you could sing, but I'm glad to hear it! :-)

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 24, 2017 at 05:08
Nor Treblig, yeah, I also prefer Nero and I understood the pun. I just listed old programs (some of them I do use) for fun.

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 20, 2017 at 21:28
Ron, so when will the first patch be released? :P

Mikee - Feb 21, 2017 at 10:52
First patch release after everyone buys 10 copies

Carlo Valenti - Feb 19, 2017 at 10:30
Thank you!

Derrick Reisdorf - Feb 19, 2017 at 10:30
Hooray!

Arto - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:01
I couldn't access the site earlier today, and was worried I'd miss the podcast.
So... what's the weather like?

Nor Treblig - Feb 19, 2017 at 14:06
Dang it, Gary got cut off right when he started telling about it!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 20, 2017 at 04:44
What a pity, none talked about the weather! ;-(

Nor Treblig - Feb 20, 2017 at 06:03

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 20, 2017 at 06:10
Ahahah, I missed that word! Thank you Nor Treblig!
I was captured by the sentence Ron said immediately after that!

Carlo Valenti - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:03
The guitar theme at the end is VERY nice.

Ron Gilbert - Feb 19, 2017 at 13:25
Steve Kirk is an amazing musician.

Zarbulonian - Feb 20, 2017 at 15:36
Yes, that outro is amazing... wow. . .

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 20, 2017 at 23:00
Ron, how is Steve Kirk as a writer? Many here thought and hoped that he would write about creating the music for Thimbleweed Park...!

miguelbaptista - Feb 21, 2017 at 19:50
As a fan of guitar playing, that little snippet there felt more real and heartfelt than most musicians I hear nowadays. Amazing feeling, hope his music brings him good things.. Will it appear in the game somewhat?

Curt Clendenin - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:40
This is so awesome that you guys are doing a Thmbleweed Park podcast!
Iam about to listen to it now! Thank you again for letting me use the Quickie Pal theme song snippet on my Inspirado Projecto radio show and I look forward to interviewing Ron at some point if/when he's available!
-CEC

Mike - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:42
Ron, do you have a cold?

Ron Gilbert - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:51
New headset and I'm tired as fuck.

Arto - Feb 19, 2017 at 11:58
Release early, relax early.

Mister T - Feb 20, 2017 at 14:11
Ooops, David let slip one through there!

Milo - Feb 19, 2017 at 13:23
Love the song at the end of the podcast! :-)
You guys sound all tired... Hugs to the team!

Filippo nella boccia - Feb 19, 2017 at 13:44
Ciao a tutti!
Qualcuno bravo che sa l'inglese potrebbe riassumermi cosa dice il podcast? Non sto più nella pelle per questo gioco...

Gffp - Feb 19, 2017 at 14:41
Ue' Filippo, ciao! Allora... c'erano una volta tre porcellini... Ahahah... Decideranno a breve come risolvere.
Ciao Fili', a buon rendere...

Filippo nella boccia - Feb 19, 2017 at 15:21
Grazie Gffp! Gentilissimo!!!! :) Che bello che il gioco avrà pure le scritte tradotte!!! Peccato che toccherà aspettare per la sala giochi, ma vabbè pazienza...
Ciao e grazia ancora. Il giorno 20 comunque è domani, manca davvero poco!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 19, 2017 at 17:58
To non italian users: Filippo asked what the podcast says, and gffp answered him, summarizing very well its content.
And following I will write a few other topics mentioned in the podcast.

Ciao!

Nor Treblig - Feb 19, 2017 at 21:53
Ciao!
I think one thing was forgotten: I see nowhere those rude (and unbeeped) happy birthday wishes mentioned. :-)
Hello!

Filippo nella boccia - Feb 20, 2017 at 00:55
Grazie Zak!!!! Speriamo davvero che questo gioco sia bellissimo come sembra!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 20, 2017 at 04:46
3 setimane fa ho potuto provarlo e giocarlo, alla presenza di Ron Gilbert in persona.
Te lo dice un giocatore di vecchia data... è una figata!

Gffp - Feb 20, 2017 at 09:08
Un giocatore di vecchia data
dice che il titolo è una figata,
e se quell'uomo è Zaccaria
fidati: non è una bugia!
Di avventure punta e clicca,
di cui conosce quasi ogni chicca,
ne ha giocate davvero parecchie
dalle quelle nuove alle più vecchie.
Il gioco è prossimo venturo
poiché sai il tempo è quasi maturo
dell'anemone virginiana,
appena qualche settimana.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 20, 2017 at 09:42
I'm lusinghed. :-)

Filippo nella boccia - Feb 20, 2017 at 17:42
Fantastico!!!!!

Filippo nella boccia - Feb 21, 2017 at 07:09
Ma si sa, più o meno, in termini di ore di gioco quanto è lungo Thimbleweed Park?

Gffp - Feb 21, 2017 at 09:25
It has approximately the same lenght of Monkey Island 2. Filippo, for being here, you're a smart guy, we know. So, let's take a tour of this fantastic blog and its sections! Enjoy the friendliness and congeniality of the developer's writings! A lot of answers are awaiting for your curiosity! And it's a great chance to improve your english while waiting for the game (and so tasting also the english voice acting!). Where are you from, Phil?

Filippo nella boccia - Feb 21, 2017 at 12:39
Too bad, I was hoping longest of Monkey Island 2 ...
I come to Florence!! But where are placed the questions for Friday?

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 21, 2017 at 14:58
@Filippo in fish bowl: there will be a post, here on the blog, where users can write their questions in the comments.
Then, the Thimbleweed Park Team will choose 42 questions and will make a podcast, answering all of them.

Why 42 question?
Because 42 is the answer to The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything, of course! :-)

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:41
Don't forget to subscribe using ThimbleMail™ or use RSS to get notified when the Friday Questions blog entry is posted!
The comments are open for about 1 to 3 days only.

Here is one example: https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/questions12

Guga - Feb 21, 2017 at 01:24
Grazie :D non ascolto mai i podcast perché a lavoro non posso (e a casa non ho tempo), a saperlo avrei chiesto a te di farmi la trascrizione pure degli altri!

Ema - Feb 21, 2017 at 18:04
+1

:-)

Gffp - Feb 23, 2017 at 15:11
It has been better you didn't know, it saved me a lot of time eheheh

Mecha-Godzilla mk. 43 - Feb 19, 2017 at 14:12
I´m happy you left Trump out of it. Dont get me wrong, I would never vote for the guy. I just love having stuff that is devoit of real life politics and reality. That is also why I play games and such: escapeism. I really hate when the part of reality I dont like seeps into my games, because it breaks my immersion and escapeism. This game should last forever, this political reality is only temporary.

tcmsurfer - Feb 19, 2017 at 14:38
Thanks for the Podcast and for the hard work.

1) If you would release on the Switch, I would buy the game

2) Thanks for München one more time!

3) Do an event in Frankfurt some time!

4) @David: The game is so deep and funny. The demo was so complex and contained so many angles, I can't wait for the full game. Also thanks for Zak. Changed my childhood. Also greetz to ur wife. (Was the game the story of how you met?)

5) I will buy 10 copies spread to various platforms.

Big Red Button - Feb 19, 2017 at 14:50
1) Let's wait and see how the Switch itself will sell. However, the success of the Wii U has been a big disappointment.

Mario F. - Feb 20, 2017 at 05:50
Nintendo is shoveling their own death.

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 20, 2017 at 23:03
I'm afraid that might be the case! :-(

Big Red Button - Feb 21, 2017 at 06:48
Me too. They seem to repeat their mistakes with the concept of the Switch.

Big Red Button - Feb 21, 2017 at 07:29
Also, I would like to know the sales of the Xbox One. Interestingly, Microsoft keep the sales of the Xbox secret - probably because it sells significantly worse than the PS4. Maybe due to the slightly worse performance, compared to the PS4 Slim. Nonetheless, I assume that the Xbox still sells better than the Switch will sell.

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 22, 2017 at 18:14
I have to agree! :-( I bought a Wii, but I never bought a Wii U. I'm still a huge Nintendo fan like I've been since I was a little child™!

I think you're right about the sales of Xbox.

Big Red Button - Feb 23, 2017 at 07:42
When I was a child, I had a Game Boy, so I also like Nintendo, but later I always preferred to play game on PC.
No harm meant, but, in my opinion, even the Wii had a big disadvantage, because it never had an HDMI port, whereas both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 (after 2007) had one.

If consumers prefer the PS4 because of its superior hardware performance, maybe Microsoft will make up leeway with the Scorpio, but according to rumors, Sony already develop a Scorpio-killer. Let's wait and see. Personally, I have an Xbox One S and I'm very content with it up to now. :-)

Big Red Button - Feb 23, 2017 at 13:45
Hey, a 3DS version of TWP would probably make sense, seeing that Nintendo has shipped more than 60 million units!

I'd really like to know the likelihood of a release of TWP that runs on a Raspberry Pi. Honestly, I would probably play it. I like that kind of minimalism. It might be pretty easy to put a beta version into the boxed release, but typically you only release what you've put to the acid test and there hasn't been any playtesting of a RPi version.

David Fox - Mar 04, 2017 at 15:57
4) -- Hopefully Zak brought light and humor into your childhood and didn't end up permanently warping you. Yes, Annie lived around the corner from me in San Francisco and had all these strange crystals in her store. No, not really. But she's into this stuff as much as I am. She WOULD have had a store around the corner if she hadn't been living in NY at the time :-)

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 19, 2017 at 14:46
The Cast is strong with this pod.

Gffp - Feb 19, 2017 at 16:23
For the man that brings balance to the force (and to the voice acting): David, did the beeping of about 600 of Ransome's lines help you reach the zen guru master level of consciousness?

David Fox - Mar 04, 2017 at 15:54
Abso*beeping*lutely.

Brian Ruff - Feb 19, 2017 at 16:35
Sounds like the release is going to happen mid-ish March maybe? Well, let's just say XMAS 2018 and be happy when we get it in March 2017.

P.S. I would buy at two copies (plus backer extras) if you guys port to Switch! They have good Unity/UE integration and am not sure about anything else. I just know a dev kit is $500.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 19, 2017 at 17:44
Let's start from the end:
- wow! I love that guitar music!
- if you were two months ago, you would be more relaxed. That's OK, in two months you could enjoy your success, just wait until apr... soon.
- good to know that there are a few translation issues, due to the words length in other languages. If you want, tell us the problem, and we will give you our suggestions.
- Hi. I'm fake Ron Gilbert. ;-)

Well, let's heading for the Friday questions podcast!

Nor Treblig - Feb 19, 2017 at 21:30
Hi fake-Ron. Are all languages now completely done? In the Podcast only German was mentioned and especially because of its longer texts. But I have the impression French language being much worse regarding word/text length.

Sushi - Feb 20, 2017 at 15:35
no - non  - nein

Nor Treblig - Feb 19, 2017 at 21:31
Ron better gets all done in early March so he can use the remaining time wisely... to work on an crazy prank for 1st of April, as every year :D

interceptor - Feb 19, 2017 at 19:28
I think Cloud Save in Steam was just on the steamworks side of things: Activate it and set the save paths for the different platforms.

Ron Gilbert - Feb 19, 2017 at 19:30
The podcast was record at the beginning of the week, Steam integration, achievements and cloud saves are already done.

Henk - Feb 20, 2017 at 03:54
Maybe this was already addressed somewhere else but I forgot.
How will the backers be able to download the game? Do they get a steam Code or maybe a ultra secret download url?

Nor Treblig - Feb 20, 2017 at 05:59
They will get an email describing how to get the game.
I'd assume it will contain a link where you will select the distribution platform of your choice (GOG/Steam/?) and then you'll get the actual key sent.

Ron Gilbert - Feb 20, 2017 at 09:59
When the game is release, you will get an email with a steam code.  Before that, you will get the option to select a DRM free version, in that case, it will come from GoG.  This will all be explained in an email that will come when the game launches, so just wait for that.

Steffen - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:14
Great! I like to take the GOG version.
Is there any possibility to get a mobile version as well? ...without google play store!?

Big Red Button - Feb 21, 2017 at 16:00
I don't use Google Play either (thanks to Cyanogenmod), because I hate totalitarianism. A few times I installed the Amazon App temporarily. Unfortunately, it requires an internet connection whenever you want to run an app from that store.
Well, I'll probably play the game on PC anyway, but the smartphone ports will be great for people who use to go by bus or by train every workday.

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 16:34
Also for people not going by bus or train it's a nice change from reading books all the time during their commute.

LogicDeLuxe - Feb 21, 2017 at 16:27
Why make DRM free an option? You could distribute it DRM free on Steam too.

Matteo - Feb 20, 2017 at 04:37
Henk, I was wondering the same thing. I backed for the physical box, along with all goodies that come with it. Just wondering how to proceed... ;) Ron, please help us poor beckers ;)

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 20, 2017 at 07:33
@Nor Treblig: could you check your PM on twitter, please? Thank you!

Patrik Spacek - Feb 20, 2017 at 10:36
How much is the full game?  (price) when its released

Ron Gilbert - Feb 20, 2017 at 10:38
That will be announced when we announce the release date, which will also open up pre-orders.

Cole Trickle - Feb 21, 2017 at 07:50
Also pre-order for Xbox? Beside the Kickstarter I will buy the game for Xbox and iPad. I can't wait!

Wait a second.... you posted that comment on Dec 31st 1969. Does that mean I have to wait another 48 years until the release? :o(

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:09
The standard date is 01/01/1970 GMT... so you are in the past, beyond the standard date! WOW! Time traveler?

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:34
You said it: GMT. He is in some crazy timezone where no sanity applies!

Hägar - Feb 22, 2017 at 04:55
Will you announce the date when you announce the release date?

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 20, 2017 at 12:16
I'm surprised, but happy, that Ron didn't censor the verb...!

Zombocast - Feb 21, 2017 at 00:38
Eurogamer's channel on Youtube has the first 60 minutes of Thimbleweed Park on their channel.
I decided not to link it, out of respect to those who don't want spoilers.

N. Harold Cham - Feb 22, 2017 at 06:39
I just had a tiny peek... and I can say that seeing all those names in the phone book with all these voice messages, plus the huge amount of library books is amazing. Apart from the story itself, there's so much more in the game. It's a testimony of the adventure gaming community as a whole. All these people with their stories, it's a wonderful gift. Thanks Ron, David and Gary, and Jenn, and everybody else.

Torsten Lange - Feb 21, 2017 at 04:41
You can use "Plan" or "Karte"  in German for "Map", it's a bit shorter then "Landkarte" but works too.
If you struggle with such issues reach out to me.

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 09:25
"Plan" sounds like a good plan!
(But "Karte" not so much since these kind of shops often sell greeting cards == "Karte")

LogicDeLuxe - Feb 21, 2017 at 16:53
When you have the scene on screen and know what's going on, it really should be obvious if you have a map or a greeting card. So "Karte" will do. When it's in the inventory, you also have a picture along with it, which really would make it clear.
Same thing for "ticket", "chart", "board" or "menu" which all can be translated to "Karte" in German too.
Quite a lot of meanings, yet you usually perfectly know what kind of "Karte" a sentence is referring to in German.

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 17:43
Here we have to scene: http://www.godisageek.com/wp-content/uploads/QuickiePal-1024x576.png
This looks more like a picture postcard to me...

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 22, 2017 at 06:15
Did you notice Michael the photographer behind the counter, selling the man-eating-plant? :-)

Nor Treblig - Feb 22, 2017 at 12:04
Wait! Michael didn't have protruding ears! Bernard did, so the technology was there :-)

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 23, 2017 at 04:48
Maybe he's the son of Michael AND Bernard.
Genetic experiment.
Dr. Fred did terrific things, you know...

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:29
Terrific horrific things happened in his basement!

Big Red Button - Feb 21, 2017 at 17:01
By the way, a city map is called "Stadtplan" in German, rather than "Landkarte".

entropy - Feb 21, 2017 at 05:04
Hi Ron,

about Steam cloud saves:

Please, if possible, make it work cross-platform.

I mostly play on Linux but sometimes I have only a Windows machine at hand.
So being able to share the progress across platforms would be great.

This is supported. However, this seems not be an automatic thing.
Some games support it, some don't.

Ron Gilbert - Feb 21, 2017 at 09:30
Yep, they are working cross platform.

Arto - Feb 21, 2017 at 13:02
If the game is bought from GOG, can we use a cloud storage like Dropbox or Google Drive for save game files to play the game on multiple devices?

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:37
You can do it manually by synching the save directory yourself on those devices you want to play on.

Note: GOG Galaxy doesn't support cloud saves at all (yet!).

Arto - Feb 21, 2017 at 19:27
Yes, I suspected as much. What I should have written, is: can we move the save files' folder to a cloud folder (e.g. Dropbox) and point the save path to look for that folder.

I was aware that GOG doesn't support cloud saving (ever).

Ron Gilbert - Feb 21, 2017 at 19:28
Yes, you can move the save folder to anywhere you want.

Hägar - Feb 22, 2017 at 04:51
Even if it would not possible to move the folder, you can link the directory where the savefiles are saved to any other directory. Linux provides for this purpose so-called symbolic links, in other OSes there are similar concepts. This "trick" works with the most games.

entropy - Feb 21, 2017 at 16:23
That's great and very appreciated!
Thanks!

Emerith - Feb 21, 2017 at 07:52
Is this adventure self-conclusive or we expect to hear more about thimbleweed park?

Daniel Nilssen - Feb 21, 2017 at 10:22
Nice, can't wait! Just played through Maniac mansion and day of the tentacles to get in the mood.

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 12:20
Nice!
Have you done it in this order or did you start playing DOTT, then MM, then DOTT?

Katie Parsons - Feb 21, 2017 at 11:16
Thanks for the update. Glad you're thinking of another Friday Questions session!

How I'll miss the dulcet tones of Ron, David and Gary when this podcast wraps.

Natalia - Feb 21, 2017 at 14:13
Please consider your players don't have much money so don't make the game too expensive

Andries - Feb 22, 2017 at 01:37
Speak for yourself.   I'll happily pay anything for this game!

Nina - Feb 21, 2017 at 14:57
The song at the end is worth listening the whole podcast!

Steffen - Feb 21, 2017 at 15:18
I just wanted to say thank you for all the work AND the blog posts / podcasts beside. I really love to 'participate' in the dev process here!
THANKS to the hole TP team!

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 22, 2017 at 18:18
I concur! ^_^

Big Red Button - Feb 21, 2017 at 18:10
For the spoiler-friendly and impatient people amongst you:

I just found this interview with Jenn and Ron in person: https://youtu.be/SpCbi7cjx3M?t=20m30s

Also, Ron tweeted this video two days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhSXP_nr67o

Zombocast - Feb 21, 2017 at 20:59
Ron, why do the pidgin brothers have girl voice actors!
I fear i have a crush on them.

Zombocast - Feb 21, 2017 at 21:15
I fear i'm getting mixed Signals
HAHAHAHA

Nor Treblig - Feb 21, 2017 at 22:19
You watched the video with all those spoilers? What a horrible person you are!

Any links to the video with timecodes?

Big Red Button - Feb 22, 2017 at 06:37
Hehe! You're absolutely right. They are full of spoilers, especially the second video. Nonetheless, I took a short look into it. Just a peep... a few peeps. It's too hard to resist completely. Fortunately, I don't have enough time to watch the entire videos.

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 22, 2017 at 18:24
:-( No spoilers HERE! I don't know who you are. I don't know what spoilers you want. If you are looking for more spoilers I can tell you I don't have spoilers, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long hacking career. Skills that make me a daymare for spoilers like you. If you let the spoilers go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will spoil you. ;P

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:13
:-)

But why the heck should he be looking Ransome anyway? Is the guy on the phone his *beep* manager?

Mattias Cedervall - Feb 24, 2017 at 05:08
I truly don't know.

Victor Von Doom - Feb 21, 2017 at 22:02
I confess I had never played Zak McKracken until a few days ago. Just got started, but already enjoyed the fact that I can prepare sushi with the garbage disposal device in the kitchen. Almost rivals cooking a rodent in the microwave oven :-D

Question for the crowd: what is the hardest LucasArts/Sierra OnLine adventure game you ever played? Of the "non-talkies", I think it was Space Quest 2; of the "talkies", I'm going with The Dig!

Guga - Feb 22, 2017 at 01:48
Of the Sierra games, the only one I really played a lot was Laura Bow, just because when I grew up I wanted to try it again with a better knowledge of the English language and only then I understood that it was meant to be played more and more times in order to advance, using knowledge from previous plays to do the right thing at the right time. And I was also angry a.f. when I found out that "look X" and "look into X" were two different verbs.

Of the Lucas games, I'd say Zak McKracken. After a couple of times running out of money and dying, I started to take notes, drew a map of all the flight connections and what was in each destination in order to save money on flights, and so on. It was frustrating, since I was already used to the no-dead-end-games of the post-MI era, but in the end I loved it, it really felt like going on an adventure.

Guga - Feb 22, 2017 at 01:50
Not to mention that I never took "I should make a drawing of the map I saw" as an advice, I thought it was just random commentary. So once I got it, I had to start from the beginning.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 22, 2017 at 06:20
Ahaha, me too!! I had drawn the map on a  real sheet of paper, as well as the strange markings found here and there, in spite of the advice at the very beginning!

LogicDeLuxe - Feb 22, 2017 at 06:41
That one, actually Zak does on its own, if you instruct him to do so. Nothing you actually have to keep track of. You don't have to restart that easily in Zak McKracken. In many of the older Sierra adventures, they don't tell you when the game is in an unwinnable state and let you continue playing for hours. That is very frustrating. There is no such mean thing in LucasArts adventures. When you reach a dead end, it is dead obvious, and you know that it is pointless to continue.
However, you really should draw maps while you explore the world, ie. several mazes, drawings, airline connections and of course the lotto numbers. Modern games keep track of those things with ingame measures. The last LucasArts games, where you really should keep notes were Loom and Indy 3. If you don't, you're screwed, or very lucky at guessing. Since Monkey 1, keeping notes is no longer necessary (unless you have a really lousy short term memory) as all you need is accessible in game when you need it.

Nor Treblig - Feb 22, 2017 at 12:24
Drawing maps etc. was fun back then! I can also understand that for a casual market and when playing mobile games e.g. on a bus it's not that feasible to have your whole collection of coloured pencils and papers with you...

But it's still fun. Somewhere I should still have drawn maps e.g. of Might&Magic lying around (and then I've decoded the file format to generate the map sectors with ASCII art to see what I've missed).
I also used mind mapping software for taking notes when playing some games.

Tobias R. - Feb 22, 2017 at 10:32
Same here. I played it with my wife a few years ago. We lost all motivation afterwards.
Last summer, I tried again on my own. This time, Annie ran out of money. Since she wouldn’t play lotto, she was broke. (The knife was not bent and could not be bent any more, so no luck either.)
Shame on you, David. That was just not fair.

Lord Gaga - Feb 22, 2017 at 07:16
"The Dig" was the first adventure I finished without the help of a solution and it wasn't that hard in my opinion. You were guided very well through that adventure and had always a good feeling of what you have to do.
My fist "talkie" was DotT, and I found it much harder.

Victor Von Doom - Feb 22, 2017 at 11:03
Wow...sounds like I'm in for a challenge with Zak!

Funny, I always thought that DOTT (along with Full Throttle) were the easiest (and shortest) ones.

Adrian - Feb 22, 2017 at 09:11
Does anyone know if a physical game box will be available to non-backers for purchase once the game is released?

Sushi - Feb 23, 2017 at 02:34
according to Ron"s comment in the post "Content complete":
"The boxed version will be available for everyone to buy, but it won't include a feelie or some other KS extra. It won't be for sale for several months after the KS box is shipped."

bobdeniro - Feb 22, 2017 at 09:13
I am from Italy and in my fifties now, remember enjoying immensely MI and MI2 back then. I also liked The Day of the Tentacle very much, but after those pretty much grew bored with everything that the genre came up with.
My question is: I am 100% sure I will buy Thimbleweed Park, but I am also 99% sure that in the beginning I will feel a bit rusty so will have to start with the 'easy' mode. Based on what I saw and read, I am 98% sure I will enjoy the experience and will then want to play it 'hard'. Will I be able to enjoy the game as much, having already played it 'easy'?
Thanks in advance... I will buy the game anyway, even if I get no answer from Ron :)

Nor Treblig - Feb 22, 2017 at 12:04
So many Italian fans here!
Those two modes will work exactly the same as in MI2. I.e. on hard you will have more puzzles, more interactions, a little more dialog. The story will be the same, so if you've completed all story lines before on easy it won't be that different.

But you will get an achievement so it will be worth it :-)

Gromish - Feb 22, 2017 at 14:33
Just play it the hard way...

Gffp - Feb 22, 2017 at 16:37
Hi Bob, what's the weather like there in, ahem, were do you live exactly? (I'm from Naples). As Ron stated ...somewhere (too much reading, my mind gets to the point by now) you sure will enjoy re-playing the game. There are five playable characters, and once you completed the game with one of them, you can stay in the game, switch to another character, do the actions he/she has to do to complete his/her story, and then complete all the five stories. In addiction to this, you can solve puzzles and go trough part of the story with different characters. Every character has his/hers lines of dialogue and way of approaching. So if you have completed the game the first time mostly with Antonio Reyes (just to say one of the characters) in easy mode, you can replay the game in hard mode and focus your gameplay on another character. In any case you can always see all the endings of the different characters in one gameplay session. Am I wrong TWP-Devs?

I still wonder how the hell they handled the logical complexity of all this stuff. Chapeau!

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 07:47
> I still wonder how the hell they handled the logical complexity of all this stuff.

Especially if you consider how late they started its implementation. It's impressive there weren't many issues or at least I didn't see Ron cursing on Twitter because of this.

Big Red Button - Feb 23, 2017 at 13:28
I'm not sure, but, to my knowledge, there are no alternative endings. Also, for most of the puzzles in TWP it isn't relevant which character you are playing. It's a bit different fom MM, where you had to solve different puzzles, depending on which characters you had chosen.
And I assume that the dialog lines for the different characters may vary, but mostly have the same information.

Ron Gilbert - Feb 23, 2017 at 13:31
Not quite true.  Each of the characters has an ending that you can do or not do.  While you can play a large chunk of the game as anyone you want (like MM), there are puzzles that require you to have a specific character (like MM).

Big Red Button - Feb 23, 2017 at 14:04
Okay, sorry for my misapprehension!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 23, 2017 at 04:56
Hello bobdeniro,

I'm italian too, from Brescia, not in my fifties yet ;-)

Since you are an experienced adventure game user, I suggest you to play the game immediately in Normal mode, and not in the easy one (it's called "Casual mode" in Thimbleweed Park).
Trust us, users of this Dev Blog, we discussed about it for weeks...
Nor Treblig will provide the post where we discussed about it.
Isn't it? ;-)

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:25
You mean this post https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/tutorials with 282 comments on it?
It's in the top 6 of posts with most comments!

There were also additional discussions here: https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/podcast62
And here: https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/podcast63
With great suggestions like a third mode: "Moon Logic" mode :D

bobdeniro - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:35
Thanks Nor Treblig and all the other guys for your replies, you made me laugh :)

-) I am from Venice, and the weather right now is pretty awful [one could almost drink the mist we are engulfed in].
-) Sorry, I was not smart enough to go and check if there were previous posts discussing play modes, will do straight away.
-) Got different suggestions about which mode to start with; I will go read those posts and will make up my mind.

Ciao a tutti :)
[cheers everyone]

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 07:47
I will play it in hard mode first and then in easy to see all the shortcuts they've made.
Or I will start in hard mode first and then rage quit or fall back to easy mode.

Arto - Feb 23, 2017 at 17:40
I will start with hard mode.
Then I will go to legacy verbs and lines and pixel purist mode.
Then I will play with German language (I speak some German).
Then I will play with Spanish (somewhat comprehensible).
Then with French (I might understand a word here and there).
Then with Italian (I'm mostly lost with that language).

Is there an achievement for this?

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 17:55
You will get the achievement only if you fully complete the game. With every language. On hard mode.
Also on hard the dialog options are sorted randomly so you cannot memorise the order from other languages.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 23, 2017 at 18:02
If Spanish is somewhat comprehensible for you,
credo che anche l'italiano sarà facile da capire. Sempre meglio del tedesco,
isn't it?

Arto - Feb 23, 2017 at 19:09
Forse... I learned German in school so that's why it's easier for me. And, after all, it has the grammar from Yoda...

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 23, 2017 at 08:44
Wow, the Northern Italy is well represented...
Carlo Valenti from Genova,
Ema from Milan,
Zak Phoenix McKracken from Brescia
bobdeniro from Venice.

Poker!

ybor_86 - Feb 22, 2017 at 10:44
I'm waiting for this game!!!I love Monkey Island e Monkey island 2,this type of game are the best I ever played!
Please reveal soon when Thimbleweed Park will be avaible!!!
Thanks a lot Ron!

pumbaaa - Feb 22, 2017 at 11:28
IT'S REALEASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Availabe on STEAM, GOG and fakenews.com

Vainamoinen - Feb 22, 2017 at 12:43
Ah! Back in the good ol' days of Telltale modship, we would hand out 24 hour bans for fake "It's released" posters.

Those were the days! ;)

Carlo Valenti - Feb 22, 2017 at 16:04
BIG LOL! 8D

Patrik Spacek - Feb 22, 2017 at 12:29
How many backgrounds and how many characters has been made for this game in total?

longuist - Feb 23, 2017 at 01:24
I remember Jenn stating there are 50 characters in the game. Some supporting characters (like franklin the ghost) can also be played. Others on the contrary are non interactable or don't have text at all.
How many screens were not CUT! CUT! CUT! and are still in the game could only answered by one of the devs.

Big Red Button - Feb 23, 2017 at 06:59
In the big top scene in Ransome's flashback, there are more than 80 people.

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 07:50
Yeah, the show was sold out! Young Ransome knew his tuna! (until this one particular incident...)

Daniel Wolf - Feb 23, 2017 at 08:28
Ine one podcast, they mentioned that they had to re-draw the moths for about 50 characters for lip-sync. I believe that this number refers to actual "characters" (that is, playable characters or NPCs you can talk to), as opposed to those 80 "extras" in the circus scene.

Big Red Button - Feb 23, 2017 at 11:57
You might be right. Anyway, Ron wrote that there were 47 speaking roles:
https://blog.thimbleweedpark.com/stateofthegame4

Dr. N. Harold Cham - Feb 23, 2017 at 03:55
Well, one thing I know for sure is that backgrounds are compressed into character sets and functions can take up to eight parameters.

Nor Treblig - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:26
Also there was a 100 room limit but thanks to introducing RAE (Room Address Extension) it is now possible to address twice as many rooms!

Daniel Wolf - Feb 23, 2017 at 04:53
I'm not sure whether this has already been asked: Multiple articles mention the plumbers dressed as pigeons, and at least one of them seemed to think it hilarious. I'm not a native English speaker, so I wonder if there's some sort of pun or joke there that I don't get.

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:01
I don't know, I didn't watch the playgame sessions on purpose, in order to avoid spoilers.
I was thinking... it had to be tough to have the pigeon's lips synched...

Ema - Feb 23, 2017 at 05:00
Nice question.

Marco - Feb 23, 2017 at 07:33
I know it has been asked before - my apologies for the repetition! But is it still a feature that additional audio tracks can be added without the need to rebuild the game? So - for example - if a distributor in Germany would pick up the game (not that unlikely, IMHO) they could somewhat easily produce a german audio track and add it to the game ?! There was also talk on this forum that even fandubs would be technically possible (in case no publisher wants to invest in the german/spanish/whatsoever language) track?

For now when TWP ships, I personally will disable the voice track and just go with the german texts - because I am very happy Boris did the german translation like he did (for example) for MI1 and MI2 and prefer to play the game this way. However, it would be nice to have a german audio track and if there's a chance for that it would be just perfect.

I will end this post with a big THANK YOU to the whole TWP team: I am so happy there's a new adventure game the way *I* like to play it. I never warmed to any other game (adventure or other genre) besides the SCUMM titles up to DOTT and MI:3 to some extend. So from everything I saw, read and heard so far I am absolutely sure I will enjoy TWP a lot. Thanks for making this game :-)

Marcel Taeumel - Feb 23, 2017 at 07:48
Makes me think of Ransom: http://www.sissyfight.com/ :-)

Dr. N. Harold Cham - Feb 23, 2017 at 11:05
Congratulations, you're on the front page of SPIEGEL Online (see link), so now Thimbleweed Park is major news!

Zak Phoenix McKracken - Feb 23, 2017 at 11:58
...wow! The signals are strong, tonight!

Tyler - Feb 23, 2017 at 18:29
So excited for this game! I've been avoiding all spoilers and just listening to the podcast. Any chance you'll still meet the February release date ? Or are we looking towards the beginning of March ?
